Event Details

Rejuvenation and Self-Care are essential to sustaining yourself within the afterschool field. The goal of this training will be explore the value of rejuvenation and self-care using walking meditation, small group conversations, and art-based workshops culminating in the creation of a personal self-care plan. Additionally, participants will walk away with a copy of the curriculum, so they can lead these Days in their communities.

Attendees will gain knowledge and skills in the following areas:

  • rejuvenation and self-care techniques;     
  • what gets in the way of rejuvenation and self care;    
  • how to create ripples of rejuvenation and self care within their programs.

About the facilitators:

Liane Louie, Consultant 

Liane Louie-Badua was formerly the Program Officer at the Shinnyo-en Foundation.  She is now doing some consulting work for several different entities in the Bay Area, in different areas – marketing, supervision of staff, clinical supervision, grant review, etc.

Jonathan Owens,  Chinese Immersion School at De Avila a program of Buchanan YMCA

My name is Jon Owens. I am a new school site coordinator for Before and After school programs for a new school that opened this year, the Chinese Immersion School at De Avila (All grades K-1) located in the Haight and I work under the Buchanan YMCA. Before taking this current position, I co-developed the Aspire After School program at St. James Episcopal Church (grades K-5) and also worked as director of the Homework Help Center, a one to one tutoring service for students at Roosevelt Middle School. I studied music and mass communication in college, which I believe helps me build a strong background and expanding enrichment in my programs.

Andrea Juarez, CHALK

I am Andrea Juarez, photographer, sister, daughter, partner, youth worker, counselor, shoulder to cry on, fierce and fabulous fashionista, interior designer, traveler,lover, fighter, mother to all the youth with no family, ever changing spirit… I work at CHALK as Associate Director, helping to develop young professionals in the youth development field throuh the CHALK model.

Jason Wyman, Youth Worker: Collective

Jason Wyman has been in the field of youth development for over 15 years. He started by supporting a youth philanthropy program in Minneapolis Unified School District and worked his way up to become the Educational Program Director at the OMI/Excelsior Beacon Center where he brought school, youth, and community together to address the academic, civic, and mental health needs of the student population. From there he launched into supporting the next generation of youth workers by creating trainings, resources, and networking opportunities through Beacon Academy, the Afterschool Corps, and the Youth Worker: Collective. He worked as the Director of School-Community Relations at Excelsior Middle School and directed the Change! Program, the community engagement program at EMS. Jason has been involved with the Youth Worker: Collective since 2003, and he is excited to be the first staff of the Youth Worker: Collective. When he is not advocating for youth and families, Jason enjoys cooking, reading, and hanging out with his husband.
